National Journal introduces U.S. Sen. John McCain's campaign team for the 2008 presidential race, and also reports that Massachussets Gov. Mitt Romney is likely to pick his top aide, Beth Myers, to serve as his campaign manager if he decides to run for president. Myers is currently the executive director of Romney’s Commonwealth PAC.
Aside from Terry Nelson, the most interesting name on McCain's team may be former U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm, who the National Journal says will advise the campaign on "domestic policy." Gramm, who taught economics for 12 years at Texas A&M University (1967-1978) before entering politics, remains a hero to the GOP's fiscal conservatives as an architect of the Reagan-era tax cuts.
Gramm currently is a vice-chairman of UBS Investment Bank.
