ColoradoPols.com reports that current Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson "is rumored to be taking a serious look at running for Senate in 2008" - and the rumor is serious enough that current GOP front-runner U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis "is more than a little bit concerned." Nicholson would be a strong candidate for the currently held by Republican Wayne Allard, who is retiring at the end of '08, says ColoradoPols.com: "A West Point grad, Nicholson got his law degree from the University of Denver and was a successful real estate developer in Colorado. His resume is pretty impressive for a potential senate candidate."
Yes it is. Though Nicholson lacks the celebrity star-power of former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, who announced last week that he would not run for the Senate, Nicholson's resume and political and business experience would make him a formidable candidate. His entry into the race would be good news for the Republican Party - the Colorado race is one the Republicans absolutely must win if Republicans are to have any chance to regain the majority in the U.S. Senate in 2008.
