Will Boston Red Sox ace pitcher Curt Schilling run against Sen. John Kerry in 2008? Probably not, but it's sure fun to think about. Lots of media on the story, including the Boston Herald, which expressed the desire that Schilling be "too busy winning games and a World Series next year to think about campaigning."
They may get their wish - see MLB.com - where Schilling says he plans on pitching in '08, which would seem to rule out a Senate run.
That's probably a good thing - Schilling's a hero to the Red Sox Nation, as he helped them finally win a World Series after a jillion years. But they may have been split on Schilling as a Senate candidate. The Senate is important, after all - but John Kerry can't beat the Yankees.
Update: The AP reports that Schilling is backing Arizona Sen. John McCain for president rather than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Though Schilling pitches in Boston, he has a home in Arizona, where he previously played for the Diamondbacks. There was obviously no chance the Red Sox pitcher would endorse Yankee fan Rudy Giuliani in the primary.
