Over at PoliPundit.com, Michael Illions questions why Sen. JohnMcCain has invited "one of the most notorious liberal Republicans in the state of New Jersey," - the pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Lew Eisenberg, to join McCain's campaign finance committee. Eisenberg - who also was listed in the leaked Rudy Giuliani strategy memo as someone a Giuliani campaign should court - is a close ally of former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, and he and Whitman together "have started and funded various organizations to help elect pro-abortion Republicans in primary races," Illions reports. "Their ultimate goal is to remove the pro-life plank from the Republican platform."
"McCain, supposedly a pro-life Republican, is on the advisory board of the It’s My Party, Too PAC, a pro-choice organization started by Christine Todd Whitman, which Lew Eisendberg also sits on the National Advisory Board," Illions says. "So, is John McCain holding his nose because Eisenberg can 'show him the money,' or is McCain surrounding himself with like-minded allies?
Actually, it hardly matters - the choice of Eisenberg reflects McCain is either tone-deaf to how such a choice will play with social conservatives, or indifferent.
