New York Daily News journalist and blogger Ben Smith, who yesterday broke the news of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's leaked presidential campaign strategy book, announced today he is leaving the Daily News to write for The Politico, a DC-based start-up where he will blog and write about the 2008 presidential campaign. Smith is considered one of the founders of local-political blogging in New York. The Politico is an ambitious multimedia news venture going "live" later this month, lead by an impressive team of journalists and with its eye on doing new-media political journalism better than it has ever done before. Given the array of talent at The Politico and their commitment to doing journalism in a new-media way, incorporating multimedia and blogs, the launch of The Politico may be looked back on as a significant event that changed the media game in the 2008 campaign.
