Henry Hyde, one of the most respected and outspoken pro-life Republicans, thinks California congressman Duncan Hunter ought to be president. Hyde, whose endorsement carries weight with pro-life activists, says Hunter "brings a wealth of experience, great foreign and domestic knowledge, and an energetic spirit to this race for the White House." The website IdahoChoosesLife.org has the details.
The Conservative Voice also takes note of the endorsement, and site editor Nathan Tabor - who does some Internet-related consulting for the Hunter campaign - says Hunter is the "fresh face" the Republican Party needs and American voters want...
If you do not live on the West Coast and you’re not a seasoned observer of Congress, you might well be asking, “Duncan Who?” But in this political season, it is a distinct advantage to not be part of the media-appointed old guard.
Tabor ticks down a list of Hunter's qualifications and views regarding national security, immigration, abortion, gay marriage, and taxes and government spending, and then says Hunter’s candidacy "seems to have touched off genuine excitement in conservative circles." That may be a bit of a stretch, but Hunter has done well in straw polls in South Carolina and Arizona.
On the other hand, in the latest Franklin Pierce/WBZ poll in New Hampshire, Hunter got 1 percent (as did Chuck Hagel, Sam Brownback, Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo.)
Straw-poll success aside, Hunter is still just one of a handful of under-funded under-known candidates trailing the front-running pack of Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and John McCain, judging from the best-known national polls.
