CNN has announced that the video from two upcoming presidential debates it will broadcast in June from New Hampshire "will be made available without restrictions at the conclusion of each live debate," so that bloggers and others may use it.
CNN made the announcement after a concerted and bi-partisan push by bloggers and some candidates to "free the debates," including these prominent Republican bloggers and net activists: Robert Bluey of Bluey Media, David All of TechPresident and founder of The David All Group, John Hawkins of Right Wing News, Matt Margolis of GOP Bloggers and founder of Blogs for Bush, Liz Mair of the GOP Progress blog, and Patrick Ruffini, the 2005-2006 eCampaign Director for the Republican National Committee and blogger at PatrickRuffini.com.
CNN is broadcasting a debate featuring the Democratic presidential candidates on Sunday, June 3, and a debate featuring the Republican presidential candidates on Tuesday, June 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Now that the debates are freed, Republican bloggers and campaigns officials need to press CNN and other other networks to schedule the next Republican debate on a Sunday night, rather than a week night. Here's why: Sunday is the most-watched night of television each week. A debate on Sunday night is likely to draw more viewers than a debate on a Tuesday night. For CNN's pair of June debates, the Democratic debate likely will be seen by more people.
