Former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson said he has no interest in running on a Republican ticket as vice president. But on the issue of running for the No. 1 spot, Thompson remained coy. MSNBC reports.
"I have no interest in running for or being the vice president," Thompson told NBC Tampa affiliate WFLA. "I don't think I would ever want to do that and be in the second position."
On Saturday night, Thompson continues his speaking tour by giving an address to the Council for National Policy.
Wikipedia describes the Council for National Policy as "an umbrella organization and networking group for conservative activists."
In 2004, the New York Times described the Council for National Policy as a "little-known group of a few hundred of the most powerful conservatives in the country", who meet three times yearly behind closed doors at undisclosed locations for a confidential conference."
In February 2007, the NYT reported the that organization was unsatisfied with the current Republican presidential field and was still looking for a candidate it could support. Fred Thompson was not mentioned in that story.
