According to a recent Denver Post story about Colorado's low gubernatorial salary, Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen, a Democrat worth an estimated $150 million, gives his $85,000 paycheck back to the state. Bredesen made his fortune founding HMOs.
Also, multi-millionaire, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat who made his millions on Wall Street, accepts a salary of just $1, letting the state keep the rest of the $175,000. If he accepted the maximum statutory salary, he would get $175,000, the fourth-largest in the nation
And California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Republican, turns down the $206,500 annual salary he could receive.
