McCain Leads GOP Field in the Blogosphere

If the 2008 presidential election were judged by activity in the blogosphere, the race would currently be a dead heat between John McCain and Barack Obama, reports Chris Wilson at U.S. News' "News Desk" blog, citing data from Blogpulse.com, a web service that measures online buzz.

McCain easily walks off with the Republican E-nomination in a buzz battle with rival GOP candidates Rudy Giuliani and Gov. Mitt Romney, who are generally considered to be the top three declared candidates in the field. (See chart) But when it comes down to the general election, it's anyone's take. McCain and Obama trade off in prominence, depending on who's making more headlines that day. (Matchup)

McCain fans, beware, though. Former Sen. Fred Thompson is catching up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 8, 2007

ARLINGTON, VA – Congressman Ron Paul’s support has soared since the first Republican presidential debate. Conservative commentator John McLaughlin, host of “The McLaughlin Group,” cited Ron Paul as having given “the best performance of the debate.” In fact, the Paul campaign’s apparent strength has many other pundits scrambling to explain it. Paul campaign officials offer the following examples of the candidate’s rising success.

Since the debate on May 3, Ron Paul:

1. Handily won two post-debate polls posted by event sponsor MSNBC.

2. Placed a close third (18%) in a post-debate poll on the conservative Drudge Report.

3. Won an ABCNews.com online debate poll with 84%.

4. Won a C-SPAN online GOP candidate poll with 69%.

5. Became the third most-mentioned person in the blogosphere, beating out Paris Hilton, according to the reputable Technorati.com.

6. Produced a YouTube.com video that was ranked the 8th most popular overall video, and the most-viewed political video.

7. Was featured, by popular demand, on the front of Digg.com.

8. Generated so many bulletin posts on MySpace.com that the site owner News Corp. blocked all additional posts about Dr. Paul.

9. Became a “most searched” term on Google and Yahoo!.

10. Saw a quadrupling of daily visitors to RonPaul2008.com.

“These figures speak for themselves,” said campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “Ron Paul has quickly become a strong contender for the GOP nomination because of his powerful message of freedom and limited government.”

Guys, bot-stuffing ballot boxes on the internet doesn't count.

The reason you've been blocked at so many places inst a conspiracy - its botting and scripting. And I know many of you are earnest and honest, but there are quite a few who have sent hate mail threats and other emails to bloggers and people like PJ Media. And those folks on your end cheat. Repeatedly.

I know - I've seen hundreds of hits come from the same IP block within an hour over one website. You really are pretty dull - most folks have analytics embedded in their web sites anymore, and everyone that runs a site can read their apache logs and see your tricks.

Too bad - if hacking was allowed RP would win.

But it is not, and neither is he, give it up. No conspiracy, except for the "pack of *ssholes" the Ron Paul supporters have earned as a rep from webmasters.
