Arkansas Interim US Attorney Tim Griffin, who is stepping down from that post, is rumored to be headed for a top position in the nascent Fred Thompson presidential campaign. Blogger MacRanger likes the choice, despite some Lefty bloggers noting Griffin's connection to the (non)scandal over the Bush administration firing a few federal prosecutirs.
MacRanger notes that Griffin is a Iraq War vet and highly decorated hero who has been rumored to be joining the Thompson campaign for some time. "Don’t let the lefty blogs .... scare anyone that Tim would be unnecessary baggage. The so-called AG scandal is a dead issue as far as national conscious is concerned."
I think that's right. I don't hear anyone other than political junkies talk about the AG firings story, and the few who I do hear know that the President has the right to fire any U.S. Attorney at any time for any reason, even any raw, naked political reason.
Jim Geraghty calls the rumored hiring of Griffin to help run Thompson's campaign "a sign that FDT is going to have a very solid campaign apparatus," adding that Griffen was very, very good at his job at the RNC when he was Research Director and Deputy Communications Director during the 2004 presidential campaign."
