The invaluable blog Captain’s Quarters has a very important post on how the U.S. military is already feeling the consequences of the delayed funding due to the Democrats using the war in Iraq as a political tool to bash the president rather than do their job and pass the funding legislation to pay for the war tha tmost of them voted for five years ago.
Captain's Quarters links to a Congressional Research Service report that says the military will have to degrade its own "non-war-related operations" due to the delay in additional funding for the Iraq war, by doing such things as limiting facility maintenance and repairs, delaying equipment overhauls, restricting travel and meetings, and, perhaps, slowing down training.
Says Captain's Quarters: "In other words, not passing a serious supplemental and getting the money to the Army by May 1 will cause some disruptions - depending on where the Army wants to have them. This differs from Harry Reid's assertion that there is no haste in approving the supplemental."
