One of my favorite Republicans of recent years is Haley Barbour, the current Mississippi governor who previously lead the Republican National Committee and also was once a political adviser to President Ronald Reagan.
A few weeks ago, Barbour sat down with Peter Robinson of the Hoover Institution for a lengthy chat about the current state of the Grand Old Party and what it will take for it to regain its prominence in American politics. In the nearly 30-minute interview - titled, "How Can the GOP Get Its Groove Back?" - Barbour talks about what did the GOP do right in the mid-nineties to capture a majority in the House of Representatives for the first time in forty years, and what is it doing wrong today - and how the party can adapt the conservatism of Ronald Reagan to today's issues.Barbour's currently doing a great job leading Mississippi as it recovers from Hurricane Katrina, but I hope we'll see him back in the national arena some day.
