There is a sure route for the Republican Party to regain majority status nationally: oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants and all that goes with it - the huge "illegal immigration tax" that all of us are paying now and will increasingly pay as the flood of illegals continues to rise, in the form of increased costs for government welfare programs, healthcare, education, etc.
Then there is the human toll. Right here in Nashville where I live we've had a number of Americans killed by drunk-driving illegals. While some want to blame the drunk driving, the core fact is that had the illegals not been here in the first place, their victims would still be alive.
And why were the illegals here? The prime reason is the failure of the federal government to secure the border and enforce the law against employers hiring illegals.
And yet, today, the Republican Party, especially the Republicans in the U.S. Senate, are failing to stop the 2007 version of the same amnesty plan and border security promise that was foisted up us in the 1980s. The illegals were amnestied, and the border wasn't secured.
No matter what you are hearing out of Washington, that is what will happen this time.
The border will not be secured. The flood of illegals will continue. And 12 million illegals will suddenly be turned into citizens, with all the same rights that you have.
Republicans win elections when they stand for law and order. They lose them when they don't.
Coddling illegals and breaking faith with Americans on the promise to secure the border is a recipe for continued decline for the Grand Old Party.
