Fred on Leno, and On His Own Blog

Fred Thompson's pre-campaign website, ImWithFred.com, now has a blog, and Fred is the Blogger in Chief. His first post - just a quick invite to watch his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - is already drawing a flood of comments from all over the country. A basic theme of the first 100 comments: people urging Fred to "keep it real."

ABC News' Political Radar, recaps Thompson's Tonight Show appearance.

One thing that caught my ear with Thompson on Leno: The mention of the FredHeads. Who are the FredHeads? I'll let blogger "Ragnar Danneskjold" of The Jawa Report, and the Online and Field Coordinator for FredHeadsUSA explain...

I write to bring to your attention to the emergence of the "FredHeads," http://FredHeadsUSA.org national volunteer network of Fred Thompson supporters who are coming together, organizing and training to be effective volunteer field operatives supporting the candidacy of Fred Thompson.

The FredHeads originally came together within the now famous online forum site DraftFredThompson.com. They're now moving into the real "bricks and mortar" political world. A lot of the FredHeads are still taking political "baby steps," but they're learning fast.

Over the past several weeks, I've been working actively with the FredHeads to help them further organize their online presence and gain the online and real-world campaign skills necessary to be effective campaign operatives.

I see massive potential for this group, and I'm a huge advocate of what they're doing. We're working to spread the word that the FredHeads are out here and that they're re-writing the playbook on GOP grassroots political activity. I'm telling you folks: this is exciting stuff. If you want the inside story, we can get it to you straight from the key players.

This is not just a political election campaign, folks. This is a movement.

The Fred Thompson campaign team has a huge potential asset on their hands with the FredHeads and other grassroots efforts that have attracted thousands of supporters and willing volunteers. It's not just the FredHeads. GrassrootsVoter.com registered more than 18,500 volunteers as it sought to encourage Thompson to enter the race.
