This is the Rudy Giuliani installment of a series of 11 posts I am presenting today here at ElephantBiz.com surveying the social-media aspects of the websites of the 11 Republicans currently running for President. (See: "Grading the Candidates' Blogs.")
Giuliani's campaign website, JoinRudy2008.com, is visually appealing, and incorporates both video and easy-to-spot action items such as "Join the Cause," "Contribute" and "Get Involved." The one that caught my eye: "Rudy on Your Blog," which offers bloggers code to embed Giuliani campaign badges, donations boxes and even a live news feed from the campaign on their blogs.
The Giuliani site also offers RSS feeds and has a blog, of sorts, called "The Buzz," which links to news media stories about Giuliani and the campaign that the campaign likes.
But Giuliani campaign blog doesn't allow reader comments - in fact, other than putting Rudy's stuff on your blog, there's no other acknowledgement of the blogopshere. There's no "Bloggers for Rudy" blogroll. The Giuliani campaign's approach to the blogosphere is very top-down: You can get the Rudy news feed, but the campaign's website doesn't seem all that interested in what the grassroots have to say.
In terms of effective and broad use of social media, I'd give the overall effort a grade of B-.
Update: For reviews of social media efforts of the other 10 Republican presidential candidates, see the list below:
