This is the Sam Brownback installment of a series of 11 posts I am presenting today here at ElephantBiz.com surveying the social-media aspects of the websites of the 11 Republicans currently running for President. (See: "Grading the Candidates' Blogs.")
Brownback's campaign website, brownback.com, wins points for the easy-to-remember web address, and loses points for having a homepage that's nothing but a pretty graphic and an "enter the site" button. Sen. Brownback, you're at 1 percent in the polls. Make it easy for people to get to the meat of your site.
The good news: The Brownback site accesses the blogosphere two ways, the first being a round-up of Brownback coverage on the blogs, and the second being the Brownback Blog. It's a good blog format which allows for reader comments and allows readers to submit blog posts to Technorati, Del.icio.us, Digg, StumbleUpon and FaceBook. But there's no "Bloggers for Brownback" blogroll, and no way for bloggers to really interact with the campaign or website other than linking to the site and blog.
I'd add a way for bloggers to sign up as "Bloggers for Brownback," and present a blogroll of those bloggers, along with an aggregator of selected posts from those blogs, to amplify what they have to say in hopes of pushing pro-Brownback memes into the mainstream media.
In terms of effective and broad use of social media, I'd give the Brownback website a B.
Update: For reviews of social media efforts of the other 10 Republican presidential candidates, see the list below:
