The all-too-common Brownback Weasel was spotted today in the US. Senate. At the indispensable Hot Air, AllahPundit breaks down the illegal immigration amnesty bill cloture vote in chronological order and finds the vote-switchers. Most interesting: Sen. Sam Brownback, who switched his vote to "no," after it was clear the bill was going to die. AllahPundit calls the presidential-wannabe Brownback "the weaseliest no vote of all" because he initially voted "yes" on cloture - which, essentially, was a "yes" vote for the illegal immigration amnesty bill - and then switched his vote to "no" after the vote tally topped 40 and cloture failed.
That's right: Brownback voted for amnesty for illegals before he voted against it.
How Kerryesque of him.
Hot Air has the video of the Brownback Weasel in action.
The Brownback Weasel is a pathetic species that has no hope of being elected president.
Ultra-pathetic: Brownback's doomed-campaign website already has a press release out touting his "no" vote today, claiming he voted against it "because I am not convinced it would fix our broken immigration system and it would most likely repeat the mistakes of the 1986 reform."
No, Sen. Brownback, that's not why you voted no. You voted yes first because you supported the immigration reform bill and thought cloture was going to pass. When it was obvious that the bill wouldn't survive the cloture vote, you switched your vote to "no" because you know that the Republican Party base is heavily opposed to this bill.

Feel free to call Sen. Weasel's office and ask him if he thinks the American people are too dumb to understand that he actually voted for the bill before voting against it.
His office number is 202-224-6521. You can also call the campaign at 515-221-1001 or email the campaign via this web form on the Brownback campaign website.
Be nice.
Update: According to Jim Geraghty, Brownback is proud of what he did.
Here's Brownback's explanatory quote, from Geraghty's Campaign Spot blog:
"I wanted to signal that I am supportive of comprehensive immigration reform, but that now is not the time and this is not the bill."
Geraghty says Brownback's staff "says this was done intentionally, and that he deliberately voted first and loudly."
The explanation is even more weasely than the actual voting yes and then no.
Let's recast Sen. Brownback Weasel's explanation in words that Sen. John Kerry might have used: "I wanted to vote for the bill before I voted against it."
