Abortion: It's For the Children

Clair Celsi over at The Demo Memo says today that abortion protects children.

That's right. Not content to just claim that every tax increase and new government program is "for the children," now the Left wants to claim that abortion is "for the children."

Well, the non-dead ones, anyway.

Reminds me of "We had to destroy the village to save it."

The claim that the pro-choice movement saves children's lives is absurd and odious. The pro-choice movement in America has killed more than 48.5 million babies since 1973.

To put that in perspective: California, the most populous state, has 36.4 million people. The pro-life movement has slaughtered the equivalent of the entire population of the state of California, plus another 12 million or so babies.

Update: Omar Hamada's blog has a disturbing post on how some abortionists are getting around the federal ban on partial-birth abortion.

Nobody wants abortions to occur. But picketing (or bombing) an abortion clinic is not a practical solution. Birth control and sex education are proven to work all over the world.

"Saving babies" from abortion is the only goal of the pro-life movement. They're extremely short-sighted on prevention methods that would reduce the number of procedures by millions each year.

They prefer to talk about signing abstinence vows, pouring millions into abstinence-only programs, and ignoring the fact that religious youths and non-religious youths tend to initiate sex at the same age.

That's not what she said at all! Were we reading the same article? Celsi connected the pro-life movement to abstinence only education, then to a higher rate of teen pregnancies and abortions. As noted in my comment on TheDemoMemo, "Abstinence Only" education promotes ignorance. I do believe that with the right Christian foundation at home, there would likely be fewer youth becoming sexual active. The fact is that not everyone is Christian, just telling kids not to do it makes them even more curious, and from my experience (as a college aide in a high school health class), even the ones not planning to have sex until they are married are curious and want to be educated on the subject.

Kimberlee:

Short answer: No.

Hobbs has one or two simple narratives about "the left" in which he finds a way to fit everything he "reads."

Don't argue with "logic." Bill don't play by dem rulz.
