USA Today reports that, as signs grow that the military "surge" strategy in Iraq is working, support for the war is again growing:
"In the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, taken Friday through Sunday, the proportion of those who said the additional troops are 'making the situation better' rose to 31% from 22% a month ago. Those who said it was 'not making much difference' dropped to 41% from 51%."
Most Americans supported the war when it began. It's not surprising that, as the military - a far more trusted institution in America than Congress - makes visible progress toward victory, Americans' support for the war would rise and support for the Democratic Congress's plan to force withdrawal and defeat would erode.

The surge will never work as long as a political solution remains elusive. The surge itself is just a band-aid solution, dependent on a constant supply of troops to the region.
