Somewhere, Harry Reid is crying: "The new U.S. military strategy in Iraq, unveiled six months ago to little acclaim, is working," reports the Associated Press.
It is time - actually it is past time - for the Democratic Party to back off of its efforts to lead America to defeat in Iraq by forcing an early withdrawal of troops. The surge is working. It is undeniable now, no matter how hard Jon Soltz of VoteVets.com and YearlyKos tried to censor that message. The surge is working. Republicans, mostly, want to win in Iraq. Democrats, mostly, want to surrender in Iraq.
The American people have never shown in their history much love for political parties that prefer defeat and retreat in a time of war - especially a war in which our military is making progress.
That's why the president's poll numbers are ticking upward, and support for the surge is ticking upward. Sure, more than half the country still isn't pleased with how the war is going - but among Republicans support for pressing on to victory remains high, and as President Bush continues the war effort and the surge, and battlefield progress accumulates, support for the war, and for the president and for Republican officeholders and candidates who stand by him also will rise.
The key to victory in the '08 elections is rather simple for Republicans: Win the war. Win the elections.
After all, the economy is humming along just fine, inflation is virtually non-existent, employment continues to rise, unemployment is ultra low, taxes have been cut and the federal budget deficit is plummeting as record tax revenues roll in, so the Democrats only have second-tier economic issues. And they have a political albatross - they want to raise taxes. Lots of taxes. By a lot.
Republicans, just remember Al Davis' famous line: Just win, baby. Win the war in Iraq - which means fighting off all Democrat attempts to force surrender, withdrawal and defeat - and win in November '08.

Amen!
Just like Congress, the liberal media, and the hippies really caused us to "lose" Vietnam too.
It had nothing to do with 15 years of [Republican and Democratic] idiotic strategic and tactical decision-making, but it was really the dirty hippie pacifists. If only Ford could have overcome the defeatocratic Congress and kept the war going for just a little longer we surely would have "won."
Q: How do you "win" an occupation, Bill? Our military already accomplished the mission they were given: destroying the Baathist regime. This is undeniable. Having done that admirably and honorably, how do they "win" occupation?
