Mike Huckabee, who is leading in the war of the one-liners, came out today with another good one:
"If you look at where we are, even with the national polls, we've spent a nickel to the 100-dollar bill as some of these guys," Huckabee said from Dearborn, Mich. "It's not that I'm depressed thinking where we are. Heck, I'm pretty encouraged. If I were some of these guys who had spent tens of millions of dollars and weren't any further ahead, I'd have to be sitting in a warm tub of water with razor blades in both hands at this point saying how much money does one have to spend to get on track."
While Huckabee's comments have generated a lot of talk and favorable media attention, there comes a point when you have to ask if those kind of comments undermine a "Presidential image". Afterall, it's one of the problems Bill Richardson is having in the Democratic race.![]()
In a media environment where every word is important because media coverage for underdogs comes few and far between, Huckabee has gotten as much, if not more, coverage for his one-liners than for his issues of substance. His image is becoming the witty class clown, rather than the Principled Governor.
