With the news that Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has been unable to raise a competitive amount of money, he has pretty much cemented his status as a long shot Presidential candidate. Despite his win in the Iowa Straw Poll a couple months ago, he was only able to raise a million dollars and has less than that in the bank. Which is unfortunate, because many had speculated that if he could raise the money, he would be a top-tier candidate.
Huckabee, however, makes a strong case to be the Vice Presidential nominee, regardless of who the Presidential nominee is. He's a southern Governor, with a strong record on the 2nd Amendment, who's previous profession was on the pulpit.
For Giuliani, he would allay the fears that, well, everyone on the Right has towards his record on abortion, gun control, and a slew of other issues. Huckabee's southern accent and charm also provides a good regional distinction to the Yankee fan's.
For Romney, he allays the warranted questions about Romney's past flip-flopping on about every issue. Romney, who seems to have taken every position, and then some, in the past needs Huckabee who's reliable conservative record speaks for itself. And like with Giuliani, he provides good regional balance to the Massachusetts governor.
For Thompson, Huckabee brings executive experience to the ticket which Thompson lacks. And as a former Southern Baptist preacher, he can put to rest any of the concerns about Thompson's spotty church attendance, or religiousity in general.
