
While we generally don't endorse here at ElephantBiz, we may have to endorse John Edwards in the Democratic primary.
And not because we agree with him, but because it just struck us that he has accepted public funds. Everyone wrote him off after this decision because when a candidate accepts public funds, they are severely limited to how much money they can spend.
In 1996, Republican candidate Bob Dole was forced to accept public funds, and thus subjected to the federal spending limits. Consequently, Bill Clinton was up on air touting his message long before Dole, and we all remember the result.
So an Edwards primary victory would severely handicap his general election chances and equal a Republican victory. The former is unlikely, but at least now that Edwards has public money he can get his haircuts on the taxpayer's dime. And if he can't win, at least he can look pretty:
