Dr. Richard Land, of the Southern Baptist Convention appeared on CSPAN to discuss the Presidential race, the issue of a 3rd Party challenge, and the pro-life movement in general. As I had previously reported, leading Christian Conservative leaders are considering mounting a serious 3rd Party Pro-Life candidate if Rudy Giuliani were to win the nomination; a challenge with polling behind it.
Richard Land, who had previously defended Fred Thompson after attacks from James Dobson, says that Mitt Romney, who was once pro-choice, would be an acceptable nominee:
This is an interesting assertion because Romney has not yet been able to garner any real support from social and religious conservatives. He is essentially implying that social conservatives will line up behind Romney. And this isn't that unbelievable.
Although he took liberal positions in the past in order to get elected (which is a questionable issue in itself), at the end of the day he is a religious conservative with the picture perfect family. It's a selling point for Romney that Giuliani doesn't have.
