
Stephen Colbert, who announced last week on Larry King that the publication of his new book was actually the first step in a Presidential announcement process, went on the Daily Show last night to anounce he might announce for President. And then 15 minutes later on his show, in what seemed like a scene out of a movie, announced for President.
All the silliness aside, Colbert's exercise in futility highlights the circus that is running for President. First comes the book, then comes interviews on softball programs like Larry King, then comes the non-announcement (exploratory committee) announcement, and then comes the actual announcement. Although most candidates do this over the course of months, Colbert, obviously pressed for time, did it in the span of a week.
He has yet to file papers with the FEC, but if he does it will be interesting to see how much he raises in the 4th Quarter. While we normally don't endorse candidates here at ElephantBiz, we may have to consider this one.
