A new poll in South Carolina has Fred Thompson leading followed closely by Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. Per Jonathan Martin:
Thompson: 17.9%
Giuliani: 16.5%
Romney: 16.5%
McCain: 9.2%
Huckabee: 5.4%
Undecided: 29.9%
This is good news for Thompson who's "Southern Strategy" begins and ends with South Carolina. And he's accomplished this lead without having run any commercials. It's also good news for Romney who is proving again that money can buy happiness; and votes.
It's troubling news for Giuliani who has fallen since early polls put him in the 30% range. Could this be a sign that voters are beginning to pay attention and Giuliani just isn't making the cut?
