As First Read puts it, "welcome to the first tier, Mike Huckabee":
While Huckabee's first ad was a bit silly and a bit questionable, this one wastes no time getting right to the point. It opens with his statement about his faith and flashes "Christian Leader" across the screen. And then it doesn't let up from there. He appeals directly to social conservatives, and he touts his support of the Human Life Amendment in a vieled attempt to get out in front of Fred Thompson on the issue (Thompson's next ad will likely flash "endorsed by National Right to Life" somewhere in it).
He's in for some heavy vetting in the weeks to come, but it's hard to see any of it gaining traction. The media's love affair with him and the other candidates' questionable stances/histories on certain issues essentially give him a free pass. Iowa is still Romney's to lose, but now is Huckabee's moment.
Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving.
