Last night, in what was probably the least watched debate of the cycle, the Republican candidates appeared at their first ever Spanish language debate broadcast on Univision. Not surprisingly, token isolationist Tom Tancredo did not show up.
It was sure to have been the most pro-immigration audience that most of these candidates have ever faced, and it's a good bet that there was at least one member of that audience that has an illegal family member. Consequently, given the candidates' recent rhetoric on immigrants; they seemed to have a tough time getting comfortable on stage.
It also lacked the fireworks that charaterized the last debate; and it seemed that the candidates were just going through the motions trying to stay on message. If we had to pick a winner; we'd say Thompson. He stayed on message and came off as the intellectual, no nonsense conservative.
