SurveyUSA has a poll from the Feb. 5 state of California.
Giuliani 28%
Huckabee 20%
Romney 16%
McCain 14%
Thompson 13%
Like with the Florida poll, this one seems to track the national trend. Rudy Guiliani is in a steady decline while Mike Huckabee is silently making gains. California is one of the states that underpins Rudy Giuliani's Big State Strategy and he needs a win there to have any chance at the nomination.
The bigger story in this poll, however, is that a former evangelical minister (with a weak fiscal record) is in 2nd place in socially progressive California. Conventional wisdom says Huckabee could never win in California, but if he finishes second and the race lasts past Feb. 5, he will likely be the one who wins the news cycle. .
