The latest poll from Iowa brings new life to Mitt Romney. After two weeks of heavy negative advertising, Romney has regained his lead in Iowa from Mike Huckabee (taken Dec. 26-28):
Romney 27%
Huckabee 23%
Thompson 14%
McCain 13%
Paul 5%
Giuliani 5%
This poll was taken a full two weeks after Romney first went negative, and demonstrates the power of negative advertising. Huckabee who has opted to take the high road rather than respond in kind may be regretting that decision now. Although the caucus is only 4 days out, the Trust Huckabee ad combined with Huckabee's latest ads should have some effect in stemming the decline.
Another interesting thing parsed from the poll is that Iowans are beginning to make up their mind. Seventy-eight percent of Huckabee's support is solid while 65% of Romney's support is, and there is still 33% up for grabs.
