On the 147th Anniversary of South Carolina's secession from the Union, the Lakota Indian Tribe announced today that it is withdrawing from all its treaties with the United States. Per the AFP:
A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old.
The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free -- provided residents renounce their US citizenship, Means said.
One of the reasons cited for their secession were poor living conditions and low standards of living, an unfortunate problem that affects many American Indian reservations. What was painfully absent from their reasons, however, was their plan to make things better. Cutting themselves off from the mutual gains to be had from trade with the United States doesn't seem like a sensible solution.

Does this mean we'll have to use a passport to travel through their territory?
