The Palmetto Scoop has a pretty unbelievable story about Rudy Giuliani blatantly exploiting New York ties in South Carolina:
[Giuliani] has brought down a familiar face — Rep. Peter King, a New York Congressman who has been traveling with Giuliani across South Carolina.
This is an interesting approach to say the least, and it appears to be paying off.
I talked to King this afternoon, and he told me he was impressed by the number of New Yorkers at Sun City. “I met a woman who went to the same ice cream soda place in Bay Ridge,” he said. “Another guy was a cop with my father. And there were a lot of people who knew people.” [BYRON YORK - The Corner]
I can't say I've ever heard of a campaign explicitly targetting transplants, but perhaps this where the high positives Rudy Giuliani enjoys in South Carolina come from. I guess the Palmetto State is more receptive to New York values than we once thought.
