Continuing with its questionable/creative campaign tactics, Ron Paul's campaign is paying two former Arkansas Republican legislators to fly out to Iowa this weekend to criticize their former Governor (h/t: Political Derby). The two legislators have not endorsed Paul for President.
Not to be outflanked, Mike Huckabee flew out some of his own home state supporters to hold the lines including Gilbert Baker, former Arkansas GOP Chair and state senator, and a handful of other Arkansas legislators. He also announced this morning that Ed Rollins of the Republican establishment would be joining his campaign as National Chairman.
Although social conservatives are beginning to coalesce around him, Huckabee still has to prove his viability to the rest of the National Republican establishment that includes fiscal conservatives, political insiders, and the rest of the (marginalized) Republican tent. Rollins joining his campaign shows that political insiders are beginning to come around, or at least recognize an inevitability. As far the Natural Staters' entrance into the fray goes, they're just fighting old battles on new ground.
