Financial Differences Between Romney and Huckabee

The Huckabee camp has put out a pretty impressive research piece linking Club for Growt.net, the group that has been running negative ads against Mike Huckabee, and Mitt Romney's financial backers:

The Club for Growth has an affiliated 527 group, Club for Growth.net, running anti-Mike Huckabee ads in early primary states.

-  At least $585,000 in contributions from Mitt Romney financial backers.

-  Club for Growth has spent $750,000 against Governor Huckabee in Iowa, South Carolina and Michigan.

Here are donors that have donated both to Club for Growth.net* and Mitt Romney:
Name:  John Childs

Contribution to Beltway Group
$100,000 on 11/16/07
$100,000 on 12/31/07

Contribution to Mitt Romney
$2,100 on 1/8/07

Name:  Bob Perry

Contribution to Beltway Group
$200,000 on 12/12/07

Contribution to Mitt Romney
$2,300 on 3/13/07

Name:  Kristen Hertel

Contribution to Beltway Group
$25,000 on 12/21/07
$25,000 on 1/02/08

Contribution to Mitt Romney
$1,000 on 2/6/07

The release continues listing all donors who gave $20,000 or more to the 527 and  are maxed out to Romney.

trusthuck.pngLike Trust Huckabee, Club for Growth.net follows the lead of the Romney camp. The biggest difference between the two groups, however, is money.

There is no money in being a Christian/social conservative and the extent of Trust Huckabee's nefarious activity has been making phone calls. Club for Growth.net, on the other hand, has access to the deep pockets of Romney's supporters and the potential of its political activity is unlimited.

The question in my mind is which came first? In other words, did the Club for Growth folk decide to support Mitt after reviewing the respective candidate's records, or did Romney supporters decide to get involved with Club for Growth as a way to spend more of their money helping defeat Huck?

Generally this is a big "who cares?" Club for Growth is helping Fred as much as they are helping Mitt. The same cannot be said for Trust Huckabee or Common Sense Issues. Add to those differences the fact that Trust Huckabee seems to be violating South Carolina laws and are generally using unethical methods whereas Club for Growth is not doing either.

How Can any conservative vote for Romney?

He was listed as one of the top ten Republicans in Name Only by Human Events Magazine.

What will he be after the primary?

And would he be another George Bush if he gets elected?

"And would he [Romney] be another George Bush if he got elected?"

Probably. According to one of his campaign advisers, Mitt is "ultra pragmatic". (Sorry--it's been too long and I no longer have the reference). Mitt will be happy to see a problem and then try to address it by creating a government solution--even if that solution is just mandates.

The reason that I am for Fred is that he is the only one of the major Republican candidates who would say, "Is that something that the government should solve? If so, at what level?" Fred would be a principled President, which would be a first since Reagan.
