Jonathan Martin is repoting today that top Rudy Giuliani staffers are foregoing their paychecks for the month of January. Earlier this week Mitt Romney's camp announced he was pulling his South Carolin and Florida ad buys.
On the other side of the coin, an email sent out by the Thompson camp this morning announced that they achieved their fundraising goal to keep Thompson on the air in South Carolina. And today, on the heels of his excellent debate performance last night, his camp has set a new fundraising goal of $750,000 by midnight tonight. Judging by how close they are as of this writing, they are on track to have perhaps their best fundraising day since he first announced.
To put it in perspective, after Mike Huckabee won the Iowa Caucus his camp set a goal of raising a million dollars in a week; and they barely made it. Thompson is on track to raise 3/4 of that amount in a day.
Money follows momentum, and this is a good news for Thompson. It could be a sign that the conservative establishment has finally woken up and realize they face the prospect of a Huckabee or John McCain candidacy, and are turning to their last best hope.

Well, not quite. The campaign has been going on since last Friday. But at the start of the debate last night, they were at about $400k. So today they raised a little over $350k--still very encouraging for us FredHeads. Almost as significantly, at least 2,000 of the donors today are new donors.
