The LSU Tigers beat the Ohio State Buckeyes tonight to win the BCS National Championship. It was their second in five years and proved once again that the SEC is the best conference in college football.
The Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, was the site of the championship game and is a mere 80 miles from Baton Rouge, the home of the Tigers. While a "neutral" site, we think the crowd sounded partial.
The score, 38-24, was closer than the game was. Ohio State came out firing scoring the first 10 points of the game, but it was all LSU after that. They scored 31 unanswered points and made it look easy in the process.
After watching the game, one has to wonder if Kentucky, a team that beat LSU earlier in the season, or Tennessee, the team who gave LSU a run for its money in the SEC Championship, could have just as easily handled the Buckeyes.
Defensive coordinator Bo Pellini will head to Nebraska as their head coach next season. Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey will head to the NFL where he will likely be a first round pick and make an impact immediately.
All good things must come to an end, but tonight; they'll be partying in Baton Rouge.

It would be nice if the SEC had to occasionally play an away game....
I'm in Big 10 country and it is frustrating that all of our bowl games end up being in the opponents territory (e.g. Illinois in Pasadena; Ohio in New Orleans; Purdue playing Central Michigan in Detroit; Penn State playing Texas A&M in San Antonio; Michigan playing Florida in Orlando).
Sorry. A bit of sour grapes there. BTW, I thought that Ohio State was not necessarily over matched, but they did not seem to be coached well in this game and made a lot of mistakes on the fundamentals. It just galls me that a team wins the "national championship" with two losses.
