Rasmussen is out with a new post-New Hampshire poll that shows a significant bump for John McCain who is now leading the state followed closely by Mike Huckabee:
John McCain - 27%
Mike Huckabee - 24%
Mitt Romney - 16%
Fred Thompson - 12%
Rudy Giuliani - 6%
Ron Paul - 5%
Thompson and Huckabee, the two Southerners, are not surprisingly hanging their hopes on the First in the South primary. For McCain, South Carolina is the state that dashed his presidential hopes eight years ago. While he does not necessarily need a win if he wins in Michigan, it would cement his status as the front runner and likely nominee.
Mitt Romney has been slowly backing off his commitment in the state. Jonathan Martin reports today that the Romney camp has been lowering expectations for Romney despite him already spending millions in the state.
