West Virginia's 18 delegates have been awarded to Mike Huckabee. Jonathan Martin reports:
McCain's supporters all went to Huck on the second ballot, giving him the win over Mitt, who had spent significant cash building up support and an organization in the state.
Mitt, of course, was and is counting on doing well in the caucus and convention states where party regulars dominate.
"It has to be disappointing for the Romney campaign to spend so much gold for yet another silver," McCain spokesman Brian Rogers told Mike Allen. "West Virginia Republicans ... proved again that you can't buy an election."
“I'm sorry, I thought the Romney campaign sent out something (on Monday) saying there's no whining in politics,” Saltsman told ABC's Jake Tapper. “He got beat -- period. Once again showing that Gov. Romney's millions of dollars can't buy the election.”
Those quotes are only partially true though. The state is represented by Jay Rockefeller.
